Question: How can I decorate a netural colored home to look more dark?

My new husband and I just got a beautiful house, and we are both a dark/goth in our tastes. All the rooms are white/beige and the bathroom fixtures are gold (yuck) Any tips on how to make a beautiful home beautifuly goth?

Answer: Hi, I used to work in theatre sets & what we would do to make a set appear gothic--is take tremclaid (metal paint) in a spray & spray paint the light fixtures.

As well, as you have a white color on the walls--maybe you want to go with a mauve but try to not pick too dark unless you want to purchase more lights.

So start w/ the light fixtures & maybe switch your curtains to a blood red or even a velvet black--and match the cushions on the sofa to that.

I was recently at a client's home who had her entire living room painted in blood red--and she had gothic fixtures attached to her ceiling. What she had though was a fireplace as her main view pt & she had a large (7' x 3') mirror along the back to the sofa.

She had also painted the main bathroom on the ground floor so it appeared to have "plaster" walls, & they painted it a darker green with an old looking sink holder & a fancier sink.

I do know though that you can't easily paint ceramic tiles unless you find a website that has instructions on how to make them appear Stoneish--which would lend its own "gothic" look as well.

+ remember black lace works well & a few other well placed pieces.

Question: Im going to hang my moms picture on my wall?

Answer: I think it might bother me slightly at first because it would be the initial shock of it but I would understand straight away that she was your mum and that's your way of remembering her so I would respect that

Question: Why is the pineapple a sign of welcome?

Its on signs to many towns and on door mats and pictures on peoples walls. I even see ornaments of pineapples set up in foyers of homes. Maybe its a southern thing though. Anyone know how this fruit came to be a sign of welcome?

Answer: It's a characteristic fruit that is served also as a welcome sign
in certain 5 stars hotels in tropical countries.It is brought
into your room as soon as you checked in and it comes with
other local fruits.It makes a nice bunch in a handcrafted basket
and a little card expressing "welcome" and "thank you".

It's also a typical exotic,delicious fruit that can be
squeezed into juice.In Europe we called it ananas.
In countries like Malaysia and Thailand,a pineapple
is also used in making desserts.
It's simply a beautiful fruit and it makes beautiful posters,
of course...those funny strands.
