Question: Vintage redecorating?

I am 15 turning 16 soon and my dream is to become a decorator, because i love homes and decorations and making things look beautiful. Our back guest bedroom was recently remodeled and will now be a "hangout" room for my friends and I, complete with a flat screen TV and pull out couch. It's a fairly small room but I had high hopes that maybe we could decorate the room around a retro gumball machine that we own that I planned on putting back there. Henceforth..I wanted it retro. But my mother doesn't want it to look vintage and I don't think she understands exactly what I want with my idea. I've looked into it and vintage stuff is cheap enough yet she won't budge. How can i convince her? Thank you :)

Answer: Save up your own money and buy small things to go in the room. That way they won't be permanent and it won't cost her any money. If she won't let you put them in the hang out room, then put them in your own bedroom and do your bedroom retro.

Question: Are there other kinds of people in the world?

Why must virtually all the Yahoo features on the home page show pictures of beautiful young women? Has anyone else noticed this? Would it kill them to show a smiling old man for an article about healthy food, or a middle-aged woman when talking about relationships, or an average-looking guy when discussing employment issues? If an alien came to Earth and based its opinions about our planet on Yahoo photos, it would think the place was populated merely by lovely, young female Earthlings.
Yes - it's called a rhetorical question.
I know it's all about attracting attention to one's product. I was trying to open up a discussion on a practice that should be considered outmoded.

Answer: this is not really a question

Question: How do interior designers hide lamp cords?

Bust open any copy of Martha Stewart Living, or House Beautiful, or Fancy Shmancy Living, and it becomes immediately apparent that the owners of these Beautifully Decorated Homes do not have lamps, phones, or other electronic equipment with power cords. Is there really a way to hide them in a normal home, or are they just hidden away for the photo spread?

Here's an example: http://www.fionacampbelldesign.co.uk/images/homepage/Interior_Design_Living_room_layout.jpg

Where are the cords for the lamps?

Answer: Being Martha, it's entirely possible that she had a receptacle installed in the floor directly under the lamp. That's a possibility, and I'd guess very likely. You can do that if you like, but remember-real people don't have her budget to move the outlet and patch the floor when we rearrange the furniture. Floor outlets do work nicely though. Hope this helps.
